Booking strategy
Book Tre Cime before arranging the other mountain days
The Tre Cime toll road and Rifugio Auronzo parking require online reservations in 2026. Lago di Braies also has daytime traffic restrictions in peak season. These two rules determine the timing of Days 1 and 2.
Weather strategy
An open pass is not an invitation to drive it after dark
Passo Giau, Falzarego, Pordoi, Sella, and Gardena can all be affected by low cloud, thunderstorms, events, and seasonal closures. Check road conditions each morning and return by the main road when afternoon storms build.
Driving strategy
Allow a real traffic buffer for both Brenner crossings
The Austrian vignette, Brenner section toll, and Lueg Bridge lane plan all affect the Munich drive. Do not tie the final day to an early flight or treat Google's traffic-free estimate as a promise.

Austrian motorways normally require a vignette; check whether your rental already includes one.
Lago di Braies Access
Peak-season daytime access is regulated; book parking, road access, or public transport on the official site.
Tre Cime Parking
Reserve a time slot for the toll road and Rifugio Auronzo high-altitude parking.
South Tyrol Traffic
Check pass closures, road works, events, and live traffic every day.
Day 1 assumes a full sightseeing day. If you land and collect the car in Munich that morning, add a night beforehand or remove Lago di Braies.
Tre Cime and Cadini share the same high-altitude access point, but do not force both hikes in poor weather.
Mountain passes and toll roads may close from October into spring; this itinerary assumes the roads and lifts are operating.
